Hawaii Payroll Guide

There are four required tax items you’ll need in order to get set up for payroll. 

How to register: 

Withholding Account Number

New businesses can register online through the Hawaii Department of Taxation.

Unemployment Insurance Account Number

New businesses can register online for a UI Account Number. Their confirmation notices will include your Contribution Rate as well as your Employment and Training Assessment Rate.

Authorizing Salsa Payroll as Your Unemployment Insurance (UI) Service Company

To facilitate the filing and payment of your Hawaii unemployment insurance taxes, Salsa Payroll requires authorization as your service company.

Please be on the lookout for an authorization request from Salsa Payroll and follow the instructions below:

1. Log in to your HI UI Tax Account and navigate to the User Management page.

2. Next to Salsa Payroll, click "Approve," and the button will change to "Edit."

3. Click "Edit," and under the Rights section, click "Select All."

4. Click "Save User." Salsa will now be approved as your Service Company.

Note: It's essential to grant all the specified rights for the authorization to be complete.

How to locate these numbers if you’re already registered:

• If you already have a Hawaii Withholding Account Number, you can look this up online or on any previous correspondence from the Hawaii Department of Taxation. If you’re unsure, contact the agency at (808)587-4242.
• If you already have a Hawaii UI Account Number, you can look this up online or on previous Rate Notices received from the agency.
• You can find your various required rates on the Contribution Rate Notice mailed by the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
